Transform St. Louis
We demand the transformation of St. Louis through divestment from institutions that harm, surveil, incarcerate, and kill Black & Brown communities, and investment into the People.
What We Know
Investments into Health and Human Services is usually below 1% in the General Funds budget
The root causes of violence and crime are not being invested in:
There are about 25,000 vacant homes and properties in St. Louis, mostly on the North Side (source: stlvacancy.com)
There is not a robust system of care for those who suffer from mental health crises, who are in unstable housing situations, and who struggle with substance and drug abuse.
Our Vision
Invest in the People & Transform St. Louis
First Responder Alternatives: We can invest in non-armed first responders who are trained to independently respond to 911 calls involving mental illness, housing insecurity, and substance abuse issues to mitigate police violence.
Sobering Centers & Intentional Encampments: We can invest in centers for substance users to safely work through their addictions and clean housing encampments to ensure everyone has a place to lay their head.
Reparations: We can invest directly into impacted communities historically hurt from state violence, mass incarceration, and segregation. This could look like:
Financial assistance to families who have lost money due to their family member being harmed or killed by the police.
Job training programs to decrease unemployment in Black communities.
Rental assistance or relief to those impacted by gentrification and neighborhood disinvestment.
